Balancing Acceptance and Change
Therapy in Denver or Online throughout Colorado
Change. You want it badly.
You’re tired just thinking about all the things you need to be different.
And all the effort you’ve invested in trying.
Maybe this is just how it is now?
Ugh.
Just relax!
Settle down! Enjoy yourself! You don’t need to try so hard!
That’s the whole point – you’d like to relax and enjoy yourself.
But when you think about it – accepting that this is it – you feel sick to your stomach.
You can’t imagine staying stuck in this place, with these feelings and this reality, for the rest of your life.
Try harder!
You just have to try harder! It takes effort, commitment, and sacrifice!
It’s hard to believe you need to work harder when you work so hard already. But believing the advice, you do it.
You make yet another plan and try to make yourself stick to it… again.
You buy the books, pay for the service, make the commitment.
Maybe it works for a while, but eventually you’re back to square one.
Sometimes, it seems the harder you try, the worse things get.
The ambivalence is torture and so confusing!
If you wanted a different life badly enough, you’d do the thing already, right?
The second guessing starts. Do you want it or not?
You try to make sense of it all, but you can barely hear yourself think over the battling voices in your head and all the outside advice and opinions.
If only you weren’t so lazy, undisciplined, irresponsible, stupid, broke, lonely, high strung…
What’s wrong with me?
Nothing is wrong with you!
I know how easy it is to beat yourself up and start believing there’s something that needs to be fixed about you before your life will improve.
Maybe you don’t like the consequences of your choices, but my experience tells me that your choices made sense at one point.
Understanding how your choices have functioned in your life so far can create a strong foundation of self-acceptance. From that strong foundation, you can make new choices that align more closely with who you are and what you want now.
Our therapy sessions are an all-inclusive space free of judgment where you can be yourself and experience feeling seen, heard, and accepted.
If you’d like to understand and accept yourself in a whole new way – one that leads to meaningful change – call me today, and let’s start talking about it.
Hi there!
I’m Lauren, and I know what it is to want real, lasting change.
You’d give anything to understand why you can’t make yourself do what you believe to be clearly and obviously in your best interest. My guess is that you’re not trying to conquer the world or live in a fantasyland where nothing is challenging.
You just want to figure out how to feel content and satisfied in your work, play, and relationships – and something is in the way.
I don’t know what your struggles are yet, but I know the struggle well – that nagging feeling that there’s something more, something deeper and more meaningful to be experienced before this life is over.
You don’t have to have the answers right now; we’ll work on this together. You’re the expert in your experiences, values, and visions for your life. My job is to use what I know about change to help you find your center – your pivot point – and start moving forward.
